Theme Disc Skydome – Halloweentown Sky
Music - Immediately as your toy box loads your greeted with the fantastic underscore of “This Is Halloween†the opening musical number from the feature film. It slips directly into “Whats This†the number where Jack first encounters Christmas Land. “Oogie Boogie’s Song†number is up next with its evil and bouncy theme. The mellow melody of “Jacks Lament†immediately follows, then shifts beautifully into “Sally’s Songâ€Â. After which you hear the lively and exciting “Making Christmasâ€Â. The soundtrack to this sky dome features none of the lyrics, but instead is a medley of the songs instrumental tracks.
Dome – The iconic hillside of Halloweentown surrounds all sides of this skydome. Most notably of course is the high hill featured during “Jacks Lamentâ€Â. Its long curled peak is one of the more memorable set pieces in the film. Amongst the rolling hills large red blinking eyes can be seen, like the ones from under your bed or stairs.
Ground – Etherial clouds float along the base of this skydome, their wispy long streaks move slowly and steadily in an almost eerie way.
Theme Disc Texture – Jack’s Scary Decorations
Flat Terrain – The flat texture of this power disc is a swirling grey pattern on a deeper darker swirled greyed floor. Like several other texture discs, this is a repeating pattern that fades into large swirls form a distance, but when you are closer the tiny details emerge and really bring nice depth to the otherwise dark grey ground. The swirls seem to be taken off Sally’s dress, the pattern matches quite closely.ÂÂ
Side Terrain – The side of the terrain closely resembles all the buildings in Halloween town. The layered stacks of large grey brick, an occasional touch of muted color, a spot of orange or pink.
The Fantasy Terrains
Fantasy Terrain 1 – An old stone gate’s pumpkin pillar and a grave stone are strung with classic illuminated christmas lights. The base of the terrain is a patch work of fabric.
Fantasy Terrain 2 – Another stone brick pillar with a pumpkin on it’s top along side a tall dead tree is accented by two grave stones and a lone stone pumpkin head. Again this terrain piece is on a patch work quilt like textured base and is decorated with lit christmas lights.
Fantasy Terrain 3 – This tall towering dead tree has several tomb stones on it’s base, and a string of holiday lights run up along it’s many branches.
Fantasy Terrain 4 – A short little christmas tree topped with a bright glowing star has several bare and sporadic branches, each lit and featuring a small about of evergreen. Larger christmas lights, as seen on previous terrain pieces, then wrap the already lit tree. This tree is modeled after the small tree Sally holds that foreshadows the doom of Christmas.
Fantasy Terrain 5 – Similar to Terrain 3, another tall dead tree stands high, littered with various tombstones at it’s base and strung with lights.
Fantasy Strip 1 – More of the stone wall and pumpkin topped pillars in this strip of terrain, with tombstones and christmas lights strung amongst the dead trees.
Fantasy Strip 2 – This strip primarily features two tall stacks of long dead trees. Tomb stones and christmas lights are here too, like all the other previous pieces.
Fantasy Corner 1 – Tall trees, pumpkin stone pillar, tombstones, and christmas lights accent this corner piece.
Fantasy Corner 2 – A grouping of three tall trees, the largest of which has a pumpkin stone pillar directly behind it, is covered with christmas lights and accented with grave stones.
Costume Disc – Sandy Claws Surprise
We touched on this costume disc in a previous post featuring all the Disney Original costume power discs in 2.0 but what Nightmare Before Christmas Power Disc Guide is complete without mentioning it? The classic character is thrown into his iconic costume as he attempts to take over Christmas. A nice addition to any fan of the film!
Vehicle Disc – Jack Skellington’s Reindeer
Jack Skellington and the Halloweentown gang put their spooky twist on just about everything they can when they revamp Christmas to their own liking, including Santa’s classic reindeer. In the film, Dr. Finklestien is given the task of creating the reindeer for Santa’s sleigh, and of course in true spooky fashion, he brings to life not an actual reindeer, but it’s bones.
In the game it adds to the already impressive list of Nightmare Before Christmas discs and toy box toys. While I was initially expecting it to fly when I first got the disc and tried to use it, it instead works a bit more like the other horse type discs in the game. None the less it’s visually quite fun to ride around and gave me plenty of entertainment in game.
