While technically released on Tuesday along side the Falcon & Loki figures, the Power Discs didn’t appear in stores until yesterday morning. Unlike previous Power Discs that have been released separate of the blind packs (Aladdin / Phineas & Ferb) which are packaged with figure sets, these Power Discs are packaged just like all the other blind packs in that notoriously hard to open heavy foil packet. The front of the packet features images the two discs, Marvel Team-Up: Captain Marvel & Ultimate Falcon, instead of the group shot of Infinity Characters like the blind packs.
Here is what to expect with the new Power Discs.
The new Falcon character is pretty fantastic (his write up is coming next week), he can fly, has some pretty solid speed, and his long range attack covers some serious distance. This new disc makes a great character even better!
The disc’s first perk is a new costume exclusively for Infinity’s 2.0 Falcon figure. In the game Falcon’s default costume seems to be is based off Marvel’s Avengers Assemble series which appears on the Disney XD channel. Ultimate Falcon gives Falcon’s in game character the look of the character from Captain America: The Winter Soldier / Ultimate Marvel Comic series.
A second perk for the disc is an increase in the range for spark pick up. Without any upgrades or power ups, a character’s spark pick up radius, while on foot, is approximately 1/4 of a terrain block. With the the Ultimate Falcon Power Disc, your character’s spark radius is bumped up to 1 full terrain block.
Marvel Team-Up – Captain Marvel
Who doesn’t love a good Team Up Power Disc? With the addition of this awesome in game perk with 2.0, the Marvel Team-Up Power Discs have added a great way to get yourself out of tight situations and have a side kick while knocking around levels.
Activate this Power Disc to team up with Captain Marvel. Currently in the Marvel Comic universe, Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers, wearing the costume that was recently updated from the black suit previously worn. This costume is likely to be the superhero’s outfit for the new film planned for 2018.
She has two main attacks, a ranged blast and a three hit combo. The ranged attack is a bright power red blast that sends the enemies flying back in recoil (one of her powers from the comic series, she is able to blast energy from her finger tips). The melee attacks are a hit, kick combo with a cart wheel maneuver thrown in occasionally.
Her attacks are not particularly strong, when we dropped her in a small arena to fight against 10 basic low powered enemies, they were able to knock her around and mostly over power her. When we put her up against a single enemy, she was able to handle her own much better.
It takes a full 7 minutes for Captain Marvel’s disc to load, but once fully charge she loaded, press up on your D-Pad and set her loose on all your surrounding enemies. Once activated the team up lasts for approximately 30 seconds.
Where To Buy
At the moment this power disc pack is only available at two retailers.
This weekend GameStop has a promotion running where any purchase of Disney Infinity merchandise of $10 or more will come with a free pack of these power discs. With figures on sale at $12.99 (2.0) and $7.99 (1.0), as well as discounted starter packs, this could be an excellent time to stop in and grab some free stuff.
