Disney Infinity 3.0 not only brings us Star Wars figures and playsets, we also get some special Star Wars themed creativity toys inside the Toy Box. Some are upgrades on old toys and others are unique and interesting creations perfect for the fine tuning of any Star Wars themed toy box build.
The catalogue of new toys just from the Star Wars playsets alone is HUGE, and it’s impressive how the new build out menus have been optimized and how existing toys had to be repurposed, changed or cloned to make sure the user’s experience is optimized.
At D23 and the Toy Box Summit we were given a peek at a few of the new Star Wars Creativi-Toy with the Toy Box Mentor PapaEcho (Patrick Efrid). Check out our Youtube channel to see some great 3.0 Toy Box Tutorials.
Of the new toys we got a close up look at three:
- New Ability Terminal – An upgrade to the hacking terminal in 2.0.
- Holocron Switch – A force user switch.
- Droid Spawner – A special toy just to spawn droids!
We take a close up look at each below!
We had an ability terminal in 2.0, but with 3.0 the terminal gets some minor upgrades and a new fun mini game. The hacking / ability terminal triggers a small mini game with analog sticks that have to be fine tuned to a specific location where you are then triggered to hit a certain button on the controller. With the new ability terminal, you have the option of setting up which type of user can access the mini game (Force, Jedi, Wall Crawler, ect…) and can trigger an event based on either the successful hack OR the failed hack.
Take a peek at the Ability Terminal in action:
For those of us uninitiated to all depths of Star Wars lore, a Holocron, or Holographic Chronicle is essentially a Jedi’s USB thumb drive. They hold massive amounts of data on force techniques and have been a tool of force users for thousands of years.
Inside the Toy Box, the Holocron is a switch that can only be interacted with by Force Users. The toy operates exactly like any other type of switch or button toys, with the exception that it can only be activated by force users. This is a great toy for your new Toy Box builds if you want to create alternate paths or secret missions specifically for the Jedi or Sith characters.
When activated, the Holocron triggers some fun animation and is a great addition to the already expansive and immersive Star Wars Toy Box world!
Here is a quick up close look at a Holocron from the Star Wars Rebels series.
Previous versions of Infinity’s Toy Box have given us all sorts of fun spawners, we have one for enemies, friends, vehicles, ect.. but with the addition of Star Wars the cast of Droids is so huge it required it’s own special spawning tool.
You can find the Droid Spawner under the Creativi-Toy and it can be set up the same as your other spawning toys, triggered by a range of actions, buttons, ect… What is new to the Droid Spawner is the ability to set health to the droids, allowing toy box builders to set up all sorts of fun escort missions.
You start with an extremely limited selection of Droids inside the Toy Box, when we played we were only able to select one, but just 30 minutes inside one of the Star Wars playsets will have unlocked enough droids to get you started. Ultimately there were too many droids to work them into one of the other spawners, and it made more sense to split them out. No official word on how many droids we might get, but it’s looking like a lot!
