With the release of Marvel Battlegrounds just around the corner, and the big Disney Infinity NEXT announcement on the first of March, our anticipation is growing for what exciting new things we are going to learn about the otherwise mysterious playset.
We’ve all seen the leaked characters which have dropped on a handful of sites (the list grows more and more every day). We know what the initial line up of characters will look like for Battlegrounds. But it’s important to remember that in true Disney Infinity fashion, we aren’t looking at the full line up. Infinity loves to release a playset but hold back one or two characters and give them a timed release, there is no reason Battlegrounds should be different.
Disney Infinity 3.0’s approach to Marvel is everything we could hope for. They dropped the “comic book” look, moving to the direct Marvel Cinematic Universe Likeness design. This is what Infinity is partially known for, taking iconic characters from the live action or animated screen, putting a bit of spin on the design to “Infini-fy” it and delivering a character recognizable by any fan of the feature film they are representing. I say this bit to point out that the odds are not in favor of a random / obscure Marvel character making an appearance as a figure. We are likely only going to see figures of characters pulled off the big screen.
So what characters might we expect to make an appearance? Here’s our top four guesses:
She can help fill that coveted missing spark of Girl Power in Battlegrounds, and features an impressive set of moves and skills that would translate beautifully into the game.
Bucky is featured so heavily in this story line it would almost be crazy not to expect him to show up in the Infinity line up eventually. The question is, will it be in Battlegrounds?
This character has been with us since the first Ironman, and War Machine is making his mark more and more in each film that’s released. He would make for some really interesting combat with his heavily armed suit. (And we always need more flying characters!)
With a lot of the conflict of Civil War being between the heroes, there isn’t much room for a bad guy… but based purely on promotional material out there, it looks like Crossbones may fit the bill for being at the very least a minor antagonist. His close range combat would fit in perfectly with the new Battlegrounds style.
Truth In Toys?
The recent New York Toy Fair does a lot to help support the idea that one of these characters is going to make its way into Marvel Battlegrounds.
Looking around all the booths and displays there were several characters that continued to pop up over and over again in each of the Civil War toy line ups: Scarlet Witch, Crossbones, Warmachine and Winter Soldier.
Check out this small gallery below for a small sampling of the upcoming toys. We all know Marvel has that final word on what gets made or approved to be made. Looking at their already released and announced product decisions can perhaps hint at what figures we are going to see make their way into the game eventually.
